Routines and Reminders

Children will need their reading books, reading records and book bags in school everyday.

Reading books will go home everyday.

On your child’s PE day the children can arrive in school in their PE kit clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Homework will be set weekly on Seesaw.

In Year 5, the children will attend Hollingworth Lake Activity centre for our Watersports Trip.

The children will take part in a number of water-based activities, for example;

Canoeing, Sailing, Paddle Boarding and kayaking.

“Watersports trip was the best trip in Year 5, we had a great time and even the teachers joined in!” – Oliver

Year 5 also takes a trip to the Stockport Air Raid Shelters as part of their History topic of World War 2 also with a cross curricular link to English when we study our Quality Text – Good Night Mister Tom. This is a great opportunity for the children to really feel and experience what it was like during the war and how the air raid shelters were used.

Helping your child at home

Homework will be set up weekly on Seesaw to be completed by the following week. Children will receive spellings, mental maths and grammar each week. There will be a spelling test and a mental maths test every Friday. Please encourage your child to ask in school for further explanation of their homework activities if they don’t understand, before it is due in.

Your child should also read every day, in addition to homework. Please discuss what your child has read and then record the text in their Reading Record. You can also include any comments about their reading. Your child can also be encouraged to read other things, e.g. newspapers, comics, magazines, library books, etc. which can also be recorded.

From Year 3 onwards, children are offered the opportunity to learn a brass instrument and play as part of the school band. Children also have the opportunity to join our school choir which involves numerous performances across the wider community over the course of the year.
