Pupil and Sport Premium Funding

St Andrew’s CE Primary School and Nursery receive Pupil Premium funding and Sports Premium funding.  Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children, ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and it is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since and we are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual children within our school. The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools per Free School Meals (FSM) pupil (any pupil who has been eligible for Free School Meals during the last six years). It is also allocated to children in care (LAC or CLA), adopted children and those who have parents in the armed services.

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However, they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils.

Swimming

Swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the National Curriculum for physical education (PE) programme of study since 1994. Every child should have the chance to learn to swim. Swimming is an important life skill can save your child’s life. Children at St Andrew’s attend swiming lessons in Y4. Children now attend swimming lessons for 17 weeks to ensure that they learn this vital life skill. We want children to leave school with the skills to swim confidently and competently and to meet the National Curriculum minimum standard of capability and confidence in swimming.

Sport Premium

Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. Guidance for schools on the funding, including details of funding allocations and advice on how to spend it, is available here.
Kentmere Academy has worked hard to ensure its Sport Premium provision has resulted in maximum impact on the sporting provision of its students. This has included specialist tuition from external professionals, additional facilities such as an all-purpose weather pitch and training for staff to enable the school to offer sports matches against other schools.
