At St Andrew’s, we want our pupils to develop their computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world now and in the future. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. We want Computing to prepare the children for future life, where they will need to become digitally literate and participate fully in the modern world. Computing allows children to prepare themselves to live and work in an ever changing society.

In an increasingly digital world there now exist a wealth of software, tools and technologies that can be used to explore, communicate, analyse, collaborate, express ideas and create digital content. At St. Andrew’s, we recognise that pupils are entitled to a broad and balanced computing education with a structured, progressive approach to learning how computer systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming, how to use IT and the skills necessary to become digitally literate and participate fully in the modern world.

Our Computing Consultant, Mr Chaudry, works with classes from Year 1 to Year 6 throughout the year. With his expertise, children learn to develop their computational thinking and coding skills. They are challenged to think deeper and creatively when using the skills they have learned. Mr Chaudry introduces the children to new technologies where children can use skills they have learned at a higher level to control robotics such as Crumble kits, Microbits and Spheros. Mr Chaudry has hosted a collaborative project between St Andrew’s and St James’ Primary School where selected children worked together to code.

All children have a log in to access Purple Mash where they can practise their coding, digital creation skills as well as cross curricular skills such as multiplication.
