Spanish is a celebrated subject throughout school and our children enjoy the benefits of starting to learn a foreign language at an early age.
Learning a foreign language supports children with learning about other cultures as well as sparking their curiosity about the world in which we live. It also helps them develop communication skills, including key aspects such as speaking and listening as well as extending their knowledge of how language works.
At St Andrew’s our children have the opportunity to learn Spanish from Year 3 to Year 6. Weekly Spanish lessons are taught by the class teachers and we use ‘Language Angels’ as our main scheme of work. This provides our children with a step-by-step approach to the three pillars of language learning (phonics, grammar and vocabulary).

Language Leaders
At St Andrew’s a love of Spanish is enriched by our Language Leaders who help to support the children in our school to practice what they have been learning in Spanish. These children also support the Language Lead with creating whole school events. We feel extremely proud of our Language Leaders and the important role they play in Spanish.
