Science

Why Science?

At St Andrew’s, we want our children to be prepared for life in an ever changing society. Our children are inspired and curious so that they can develop their STEM capital by learning about the world, universe and everything in it. Our children are equipped to solve challenges and to have a positive impact on their world in the future.

We want our children to be inspired to use Science in their everyday lives and to be courageous advocates for change in our world and the environment.

Our Science curriculum has been carefully built and structured from the National curriculum, it has been designed to provide learning opportunities and assessment milestones for each year group to ensure progression throughout school.

“I enjoy learning about Science, I have particularly enjoyed finding out about Evolution and Inheritance.”

Emily, Year 6

“I have found it really interesting learning about Earth and Space, it is really fascinating to learn all about the planets and moons in our solar system.”

Thomas, Year 5

“Science is a great subject at school, one of my favourites. I particularly enjoy learning when we carry out our own investigations and work scientifically.”

Bobby, Year 4

ECO

Our Eco team plays an important role in our school community. They are particularly passionate about the Environment and the impact we are having on the world around us and played a crucial part in the creation and building of our Birch Room.

The Eco Team met with the rotary club to plant purple crocuses. The purple crocus is a symbol of Rotary’s worldwide campaign to eradicate polio, with its colour representing the purple dye used to mark the finger of a child to indicate they have received their life saving vaccine.

Great Science Share 2023!

Children from KS2 attended the Great Science Share at Manchester University in the NEW Engineering building. Children were given the opportunity to present a Science Investigation with a working scientifically themed question which they produced themselves and then deliver their investigation to other primary age children across Greater Manchester.
