At St Andrew’s, our children are inspired and curious to learn about the past, including that on their own doorstep. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, and the diversity of societies. This helps them to develop their own identity, cultural capital and aspirations for the future.
We want our children to be inspired by the past. We want our pupils to develop their historical capital through learning about the past in their own community as well as contrasting societies. We want history to be memorable, engaging and inspiring.
National Heritage Award
As the first two schools in Rochdale to gain the national Heritage Schools Award, children and teachers from
Caldershaw and St Andrew’s attended a special award ceremony at Rochdale Pioneers museum on Wednesday 16th
October 2019. The award was presented to them by Cllr Janet Emsley who said she was “delighted that the next
generation are finding about, and appreciating, their local heritage”
