Physical Education

At St Andrew’s, our intention in PE is to provide a fun, inclusive and challenging curriculum for all children. Our aim is for children to not only access all aspects of PE, but to flourish in their knowledge, confidence and skills in a range of sporting activities. By setting high expectations, we provide a positive environment for children to face challenges with a competitive and supported attitude. One of our main priorities at St Andrew’s is the assurance that our children are given the opportunity to participate in regular sport and exercise activities, promoting the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. All children are taught the necessary knowledge, skills and physical literacy they need to become passionate, courageous athletes, whilst being shown the importance of respect, sportsmanship and fairness in sport.

“We do PE every week at St Andrew’s. PE is always engaging, competitive and fun. The warm up is important as it gets our body ready for the main activity”Noah Year 6

“This year in PE I have enjoyed lacrosse as I have been able to learn a new sport and skills.”Aoife Year 4

“PE and sport help me stay healthy. I enjoy trying different movements to help me which help me be fit.”Charlotte Year 2

School Games award: Gold

We are delighted to announce that we, St Andrews C.E Primary School , have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

PE Standards:

We encourage children to understand the core values of Physical Education and sport which are set out by the Rochdale School Games.

These are: Honesty, Determination, Teamwork, Self – Belief, Passion and Respect. Each lesson children will work on these values within a specific activity or sport and be awarded STAR of PE for showing these standards within PE.
